  • Montsuki Kimonos:

    Meaning with family crest - Mon (Family Crest) Tsuki (With).

    Such crests represent a family with a long, rich and proud history.

    The crests add value to Kimonos, representing heritage.

    Montsuki kimono come in a variety : Single Crest (HitotsuMon) Triple Crests (MittsuMon) or Quintiple Crests (ItsutsuMon).

    The more crests there are represented, the higher the value of the Kimono and thus marking it as further prided heritage of Japan.

     

    Furisode:

    Meaning Shaking/Waving Sleeves - Furi (Shaking/Waving) Sleeves (Sode).

    Furisode was a form of Kimono traditionally worn by un-married women, signified by the elongated sleeves (Sode).

    In earlier times,  women waved their sleeves at the person whom they were attracted to leading to the modern use of the word to wave (Furu) in a romantic context.

    Once women married, they would shorten the sleeves of their Kimono to signify they would only love their husband.
